Programs
In addition to the GREET Center modules, the GREET Center organizes international virtual exchange through Globally Networked Learning (GNL). Globally Networked Learning is a collaborative approach to teaching that enables students and instructors from around the world to participate in research and the creation of knowledge. The GREET Center implements an on-going GNL program with the Ludwigsburg University of Education in Ludwigsburg, Germany. This GNL program includes a comparative and international research project about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The GREET Center also serves as hosts for the annual TEDxCraverRoad Countdown, which takes place during International Education Week at UNC Charlotte. The TEDxCraver Road Countdown features talks on ways to take action on the Sustainable Development Goals.
The GREET Center works with student organizations like the Charlotte Youth Climate Change Symposium (CYCC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Club to provide educational programming and service learning efforts in the Charlotte region.
The GREET Center is also proud to collaborate with the MU Chapter of the Phi Beta Delta (PBD) Honor Society for International Scholars. The PBD’s colors are red and gold, symbolizing the strength of humankind and the energy of the sun from which all cultures draw strength and life. The shield represents the preservation of academic freedom and is in the colors of PBD. The PBD symbols include:
- The globe represents the international perspective of the Society’s members.
- The torch represents the leadership and influence of the Society.
- The sun represents the energy from which all cultures draw strength.
- The book represents the coining and sharing of knowledge.
On the base of the shield, the Latin motto, Scientia Mutua Mundi, is provided. When translated into English, the motto means the “World’s Shared Knowledge”.
